ISO 20022 payment status
ACTC: Accepted technical validation
Syntax and authentication checks passed. ACTC is a payment status your bank reports in a pain.002 status report (banks report it to each other in pacs.002).
| Code | ACTC |
|---|---|
| Name | Accepted technical validation |
| Outcome | In progress |
| Reported for | the whole file (GrpSts), a payment block (PmtInfSts) or a single transaction (TxSts) |
| Messages | pain.002 (bank to customer), pacs.002 (bank to bank) |
What ACTC means
Authentication and the syntax and semantic checks passed: the file can be read and was sent by someone allowed to send it. The business checks (funds, limits, sanctions screening, the payee’s details) have not run yet.
ACTC is often the first status a bank sends for an uploaded file, and for a file that goes through without problems some banks send nothing after it. Your bank’s guide says which statuses it sends, and so what no further report means.
Where ACTC appears
A status report answers a payment file (pain.001 or pain.008) at up to three levels: the whole message in OrgnlGrpInfAndSts/GrpSts, a payment block in OrgnlPmtInfAndSts/PmtInfSts, and one transaction in TxInfAndSts/TxSts. ACTC may be reported for the whole file (GrpSts), a payment block (PmtInfSts) or a single transaction (TxSts); the Payment File Viewer warns when a status sits at a level its ISO code list does not cover.

What comes next, and what to do
- What usually follows: ACCP, ACSP and ACSC as processing goes on. Individual transactions can still be rejected later with RJCT.
- What to do: Keep the file and its ids until a later status arrives: ACTC is not a promise to pay.
Not every bank sends every status: many report only rejections, or only a few steps of the flow. Your bank’s implementation guide lists the statuses it uses.
