ISO 20022 payment status
RCVD: Received
The message was received; nothing has been checked yet. RCVD is a payment status your bank reports in a pain.002 status report (banks report it to each other in pacs.002).
| Code | RCVD |
|---|---|
| Name | Received |
| Outcome | In progress |
| Reported for | the whole file (GrpSts), a payment block (PmtInfSts) or a single transaction (TxSts) |
| Messages | pain.002 (bank to customer), pacs.002 (bank to bank) |
What RCVD means
The bank, or the agent the message went to, has received it. Nothing has been checked yet: RCVD is an acknowledgement of receipt, not an acceptance.
RCVD is the first status a bank can send, and for some channels the only acknowledgement of a file. It tells you the file arrived intact, nothing more: read the later reports, or the statement, for what happened to each payment.
Where RCVD appears
A status report answers a payment file (pain.001 or pain.008) at up to three levels: the whole message in OrgnlGrpInfAndSts/GrpSts, a payment block in OrgnlPmtInfAndSts/PmtInfSts, and one transaction in TxInfAndSts/TxSts. RCVD may be reported for the whole file (GrpSts), a payment block (PmtInfSts) or a single transaction (TxSts); the Payment File Viewer warns when a status sits at a level its ISO code list does not cover.

What comes next, and what to do
- What usually follows: ACTC once the technical checks pass, or RJCT if they fail.
- What to do: Nothing yet. If no later report arrives, ask your bank whether it sends one for this channel.
Not every bank sends every status: many report only rejections, or only a few steps of the flow. Your bank’s implementation guide lists the statuses it uses.
