ISO 20022 payment status

ACSC: Accepted settlement completed

Settled on the debtor’s account. ACSC is a payment status your bank reports in a pain.002 status report (banks report it to each other in pacs.002).

What ACSC means

Settlement is complete. In a pain.002 from your bank it is usually read as: your account has been debited and the payment has left. On its own it does not prove the payee has been credited; ACCC says that. The ISO definition leaves its exact use to agreement with the bank, so check what yours means by it.

Where ACSC appears

A status report answers a payment file (pain.001 or pain.008) at up to three levels: the whole message in OrgnlGrpInfAndSts/GrpSts, a payment block in OrgnlPmtInfAndSts/PmtInfSts, and one transaction in TxInfAndSts/TxSts. ACSC may be reported for the whole file (GrpSts), a payment block (PmtInfSts) or a single transaction (TxSts); the Payment File Viewer warns when a status sits at a level its ISO code list does not cover.

The transactions are matched to your file by OrgnlEndToEndId (and OrgnlInstrId), the blocks by OrgnlPmtInfId and the file by OrgnlMsgId.

What comes next, and what to do

  • What usually follows: Nothing for the bank to do. If the payee’s bank sends the money back later, that arrives as a return (a credit on your statement with a reason code), not as a new status.
  • What to do: Match it to the debit on your statement (camt.053) by end-to-end id and close the payment in your books.

Not every bank sends every status: many report only rejections, or only a few steps of the flow. Your bank’s implementation guide lists the statuses it uses.
