ISO 20022 payment status
PATC: Partially accepted technical correct
Technically correct, but it needs several authorisations and only some have been given. A transaction status only. PATC is a payment status your bank reports in a pain.002 status report (banks report it to each other in pacs.002).
| Code | PATC |
|---|---|
| Name | Partially accepted technical correct |
| Outcome | In progress |
| Reported for | a single transaction (TxSts), in pain.002.001.08 and later |
| Messages | pain.002 (bank to customer), pacs.002 (bank to bank) |
What PATC means
The payment needs several authorisations (signatures) and only some of them have been given; the technical checks have passed. PATC is a transaction status only (ExternalPaymentTransactionStatus1Code): it is never a GrpSts or PmtInfSts, and the fixed status lists of pain.002 up to .001.07 do not have it.
You meet it where payments are approved by more than one person in a bank’s channel. Payment initiation APIs built on the Berlin Group NextGenPSD2 framework, which many European banks use for PSD2, report a payment’s status with these ISO codes, and a payment waiting for its remaining signers sits at PATC.
Where PATC appears
A status report answers a payment file (pain.001 or pain.008) at up to three levels: the whole message in OrgnlGrpInfAndSts/GrpSts, a payment block in OrgnlPmtInfAndSts/PmtInfSts, and one transaction in TxInfAndSts/TxSts. PATC may be reported for a single transaction (TxSts), in pain.002.001.08 and later; the Payment File Viewer warns when a status sits at a level its ISO code list does not cover.

What comes next, and what to do
- What usually follows: An accepted status once the remaining signers approve, or a rejection if they do not in time.
- What to do: Have the remaining signers approve the payment in your banking channel.
Not every bank sends every status: many report only rejections, or only a few steps of the flow. Your bank’s implementation guide lists the statuses it uses.
